What Kind of Music Does Saul
Play?
Radio and record stores in our neck of the woods, were having
a hard time categorizing our music. So we call it Bukra
music. A bukra was a term in the South for a white man
of uncertain origin.... so we call it music of uncertain origin.
Itís world beat fornicating with back porch blues....
Coming out ìBukra.î
The music is Afro-Cuban....but
it is not, its
Latin....
But its not, its
blues....
but its
not, its
world but its
not....etc.
We are a formidable 8-piece rhythm band, consisting of a drummer,
three percussionists, keyboards & accordian, two guitarists
(acoustic and electric) and 5-string fretless bass....
And....EVERYBODY
SINGS!!!!!
We
play happy music with infectious dance grooves, dynamic &
proud....
we are truly, versatile, & original....AND
WEîRE NICE!!!

What About the Sample Songs?
LOVE
RAIN DOWN (written after returning from the anti-war rallies
in San Francisco, Santa Cruz....(we
were invited to play at the rally in Sacto, but had previous
commitments on the coast.
TAKE
ME DOWN (written for the Yuba River which we hold so dear)
PENA
(about feeling eerily alone in my questioning of what our
Government knew about 9-11....
where were my people?)
LEAVE
A MESSAGE ( A love song that takes you from Mexico to the
Islands)
LATE
FOR THE REVOLUTION ( a parody of myself, in guilt, every time
I go to the gas pump....

Tell Us About the Original
CD, Rythm and Groove?
My
first cd, is an album of all original music....
This particular project was my first time in a recording studio
of any kind. Kudos to Bruce Wheelock and his Flying Whale
Recording Studio. His neutrality and excellent engineering
skills, forced me to produce and mix this project....It
was a GREAT learning experience, and has become invaluable.
LOVE to be in the studio. SO, being a novice, I booked the
time, and brought the band in, to accomplish a couple of things....Get
as much of a live sound as possible (by recording all of us
at the same time) and most importantly....TO
SAVE MONEY!!
Pretending
that I knew what I was doing, called out the songs off the
top of my head....
(I had NO plan, AND no idea what to record!)
Sometimes
slaying the monetary beast forces us to be very creativeÖlike
making a nice home environment with thrift store furniture.
Having so many songs, I called out whatever came to me, with
one eye on the clock.
So
this particular (Rhythm & Groove) project, became quite diverse
and eclectic, not so much by design, but by accident and necessity.
Again I am honored to have worked with so many great musicians.
My only regret on this project, is the final play listÖ that
changed at the last minute. But trying to juggle songs that
are quite different from each other and still have flow, was
a bit of a chore.
But,
all in all, Iím still proud of this little project....
So at the risk of sounding too self-congratulatory I hope
the listener feels we accomplished some soul, at a sale price....
Peace, Saul
